Whistleblowers

Leicester University has reached a settlement with award-winning historian Steve Paulsson following Whistleblowers' report of his dismissal last month. The university's climbdown came just hours before the appeal against his removal was to be heard.

Dr Paulsson was not confirmed in post after four years as a senior history lecturer and a director of the Stanley Burton Centre for Holocaust Studies.

The appeal panel was due to hear that the university's reasons for Dr Paulsson's removal were inconsistent. Dr Paulsson was to contest claims that his teaching was not strong and his administrative ability unproven.

The university said it would not comment "at the present time". Dr Paulsson could not comment in detail, but said that an amicable solution had been reached, and that he had now withdrawn allegations of bad faith.
