Virtual case book

五月 5, 2000

The Australian Legal Information Institute has developed an internet website to make British and Irish case law and legislation available electronically and free of charge to anyone.

The institute, a joint facility of the law faculties at the University of Technology, Sydney, and the University of New South Wales, created Australia's largest free public-access law site five years ago using its own search engine technology and hypertext markup software.

The British and Irish Legal Information Institute pilot service was developed by AustLII in collaboration with steering committees in Australia and Britain. The new site will be run from AustLII's servers in Sydney until a suitable host is found in Britain or Ireland. Its site received 14,000 hits on its first day of operation in Britain.
