Jones Education, a United States cable TV company which specialises in education, has launched its Knowledge TV channel in Europe. Knowledge TV's US output includes programmes which form part of college courses, supplemented by videotapes, CD-Roms and the Internet. The company plans to use a similar mix of media to deliver courses from European colleges and universities.

Knowledge TV (www. knowledgetv.co.uk) began broadcasting to Europe from the Orion 1 satellite on 7 February. Bell Cablemedia and CableTel have already signed up for the channel, and Jones Education's European managing director Dennis Garrison hopes to reach half the UK cable industry by the third quarter of 1997. He expects the channel's European content to rise from 15 to 30 per cent during the next few months. It now carries programmes from the Financial Times and Deutsche Welle. Opinion, page 11
