AoC claims colleges face average cuts of £65k
The Association of Colleges claims today that most further education colleges face losses of an average £65,000 because of cuts to the government's ring-fenced standards fund for colleges. AoC director of funding John Brennan said: "Colleges' finances are already in a serious condition. Most colleges are very dependent on their standards fund allocation."
Vaccine for cat immunodeficiency virus expected
Scientists from the universities of Utrecht and Bristol are next week expected to announce the possibility of a new vaccine against infectious peritonitis in cats. Glasgow University is hosting the second international feline symposium, which will also be addressed by Niels Pedersen, the legendary cat virologist who discovered FIV.
University of Dhaka v-c steps down amid protests
The vice-chancellor of the University of Dhaka has given in to Bangladeshi politicians' demands for his resignation after a week of student unrest led to the university's closure. The protests began after a police raid on a women's dormitory on campus.
