Southampton researchers get money for depression
Southampton University has been awarded £485,5 to continue its research into depression. The aim of the project will be to provide GPs with essential information on the severity of depression for which antidepressants might be prescribed.
Chinese student attacked in Brighton
A Chinese student was robbed during a racist attack in Brighton, police have said. Six men punched and kicked the 24-year-old man until he lost consciousness.
Strathclyde lends a hand to children's charities
Strathclyde University researchers have worked with some of Scotland's leading children's charities and welfare organisations to produce "Learning with Care" guidance that aims to tackle the problem of poor educational attainment by young people in care. Graham Connelly of Strathclyde's department of educational support and guidance said children in care were less likely than their peers to go into tertiary education.
Joint PhD programmes revive Auld Alliance
The Auld Alliance has been revived with a pioneering agreement between three Scottish and six French universities to set up joint PhD programmes. Edinburgh, Glasgow and St Andrews Universities will develop joint research doctorates with universities in Paris, Grenoble, Tours and Provence.
