Tonight is the night to wish upon a star
A celestial light show is promised tonight - weather permitting - as the Earth ploughs through a thick cloud of comet dust. The Perseid meteor shower, which puts on a display at this time every year, is now approaching its maximum intensity. It will peak tonight sending shooting stars blazing trails across the sky at a rate which could reach two a minute.

Duke opens Edinburgh medical training centre
The Duke of Edinburgh today opened a £40 million medical training centre at the University of Edinburgh. But when told that the training and research facility would create thousands of jobs and millions of pounds for the economy, he interjected: "And it will generate a lot of extra traffic."
