New members for Adult Learning Inspectorate
Lifelong learning and higher education minister Margaret Hodge has appointed three new members to the Adult Learning Inspectorate. The new members are Peter McKee, formerly managing director of Raytheon Systems Ltd; Balvinder Chana, commercial projects manager at First Great Western; and Christina Conroy, principal and chief executive of Richmond Adult and Community College in Surrey. Two of the appointments replace outgoing members - Clyde Williams and Ann Limb. Ms Conroy is appointed as an adviser to the board until a further vacancy arises. The ALI ensures standards for all post-19 further education courses.
Community development association uproots to Dundee
The headquarters of the International Association of Community Development, which has 1,500 members throughout the world, have moved from New Zealand to Dundee University in recognition of its expertise in this area. Ian Ball, Dundee's head of community education, said: "The specific needs of different communities may be diverse, but the basic philosophy - empowering people to help themselves - remains the same everywhere."
