Sir Gareth Roberts's independent report into science and engineering skills was presented to science minister Lord Sainsbury at the Royal Society today.

Lifelong learning for all debated in Scotland
More than 150 delegates from across the lifelong learning sector, including university and college principals, are meeting today to decide whether to endorse the Scottish Parliament's Enterprise Committee proposals to introduce a lifelong entitlement to learning for every Scottish citizen.

Wal-Mart owners promise Arkansas $300m
The Arkansas family that owns Wal-Mart Stores has promised $300 million – the largest gift ever to a public university – to the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville. If the university matches the pledge, two-thirds will be spent on a new undergraduate and the rest on the university's graduate school.  

Bir Zeit students in Israeli detention
"Hundreds" of students at Bir Zeit University were detained by the Israeli Defence Force, the BBC reported.
