MPs' report warns of exam overload
A House of Commons report published today is expected to warn that pupils are suffering from exam overload in the face of constant testing. The education select committee's report, to be published this afternoon, warns that hundreds of thousands of pupils could be suffering unacceptable stress. Ken Boston, chief executive of the Qualifications and Curriculum Authority, is confident that the exam system will stand up this summer despite a shortage of markers.

Fees increase will hit teacher recruitment
Government plans to increase students' tuition fees will have serious consequences for the recruitment and retention of teachers, the Association of Teachers and Lecturers warned today. Many students on teacher training courses, faced with the growing burden of debts, are considering other career options after qualifying, according to the ATL.
