Disabled students fail to get benefits
Disabled students do not receive all the benefits due to them, data published today imply. Just 1.4 per cent of students receive disability benefit, according to figures from the higher education funding councils. Overall, between 4 and 5 per cent of the student population is believed to have disabilities. The data are the latest measure to be added to the performance indicators on each of the nation's 170 institutions published by the funding councils. The councils also reveal that some 21 institutions are doing significantly better than the rest of the sector at widening participation. And on the job front, seven institutions are identified as performing significantly better than the rest of the sector and seven as performing significantly worse.

UN weapons inspectors visit Baghdad University
United Nations weapons inspectors paid a second visit to Baghdad University yesterday as part of the process of verifying Iraq's claim that it has eliminated weapons of mass destruction. Iraq listed the university's institute for biotechnology and genetic engineering as a relevant site in its declaration to the UN.
