Oxbridge recruits to civil service  in decline
The proportion of Oxbridge graduates among successful applicants to the fast-track recruitment scheme for the civil service has dropped slightly since Labour came to power, Cabinet Office minister Christopher Leslie told the House of Commons yesterday. In 2000, 17.8 per cent were educated at Oxford and 14.3 per cent in Cambridge, compared with 18.4 per cent and 15.9 per cent in 1997.

Public surfing encouraged in Scotland
Scots will soon be able to surf the net on a visit to the local pub, shop, hairdresser, doctor's surgery or church following a £3.2 million Scottish Executive scheme for a network of 1,000 internet access points. The executive wants to bridge the "digital divide", since internet take-up and access in Scotland has lagged behind the rest of the United Kingdom.
