Ombudsman finds DfES guilty of maladministration
The Parliamentary Ombudsman today found the Department for Education and Skills guilty of "serious maladministration" over fraud-hit adult learning accounts. In her report into two complaints about the handling of the accounts, Ann Abraham also criticised its private sector partner but she stopped short of calling for a national compensation scheme for learning providers whose businesses were affected by the closure of the scheme.

Zimbabwean lecturers end strike
University of Zimbabwe lecturers, who went on strike for improved allowances on February 21, have returned to work after the Mugabe government met their demands, Harare newspapers reported. But increased bus fares kept many students away. The university has adopted a revised timetable to make up for lost study.
