TTA targets male trainees
A drive to get more men teaching in primary schools was today launched by the Teacher Training Agency. It has set itself the target of boosting the number of male trainees by a fifth by September 2002 and is also committed to recruiting more ethnic minority and disabled teachers. The TTA has 32,000 places available, a rise of 6 per cent on last year.
Heart disease study tackles 'ticking time bombs'
Glasgow University and the British Heart Foundation have launched at study aimed at preventing later heart disease in toddlers. The £166,000 three-year study is designed to tackle the growing problem of inactivity in pre-school children, one of the “ticking time bombs” for heart disease in the future.
