Future of the Oxford tutorial threatened
The future of the Oxford University tutorial is under threat as several faculties have moved to replace them with classes, according to students. Under a pilot scheme, some law, psychology, politics and philosophy students have been taking part in classes of up to ten other undergraduates with their tutor instead of a one-to-one discussion.

Health problems of IVF children to be studied
The Human Fertilisation and Embryology Authority is launching a major study to assess potential health problems faced by children conceived as a result of fertility treatment. Follow-up health checks are being made on all 68,000 IVF children born since the first test-tube baby in 1978. The HFEA and the Medical Research Council have established a joint working party, chaired by senior epidemiologist Professor Catherine Peckham.

Queen opens Darwin Centre zoology collection
The Queen will this afternoon officially open the first of two phases of a major new development at the Natural History Museum - the Darwin Centre. She will see some of the 22 million zoology specimens housed in the new building and meet scientists whose research the collection supports.
