Pressure mounts on exams watchdog
The Qualifications and Curriculum Authority, the government's exams watchdog, was today being put on notice that ministers may be running out of patience with its performance. There was a limit to ministers' tolerance of blunders, senior sources said before publication today by the Department for Education and Skills of the five-year review of the authority's work.

Nottingham explores commercialisation
The University of Nottingham is exploring the possibility of establishing up to 15 new spin-out companies. Nottingham is involved in a £4 million venture commercialise research, along with Nottingham Trent, Loughborough and De Montfort universities, under the Universities Challenge initiative.

Warning on financial health of Scots FE
Iain Gray, Scotland's minister for enterprise, transport and lifelong learning, says there are still severe concerns about the further education sector's financial health. He warned the Association of Scottish Colleges' annual conference that urgent work was needed to clear the backlog of deficits.
