University of Winchester - Road warriors' battle archived

五月 1, 2008

An archive of materials relating to the historic road protest campaign at Twyford Down, near Winchester, has been acquired by the University of Winchester. The archive contains hundreds of letters, legal documents, news articles, photographs and videos detailing opposition to the M3 motorway extension, which led to the UK's first road protest camp in December 1991. "The Twyford Down campaign played a fundamental role in the development of the UK environmental protest movement," said Adrian Harris, who has just completed a PhD on eco-paganism. He will digitise and catalogue the material.
