University of Winchester - Praised with conviction

五月 7, 2009

A theatre company set up by the University of Winchester has received an international award for its work with prisoners. The university has been awarded a MacJannet Prize for Global Citizenship by the Talloires Network and the MacJannet Foundation for its work at HMP Winchester. The prize recognises outstanding community initiatives in universities around the world and contributes financially to keep them going. Winchester, the only European university to win the award, set up the Playing for Time Theatre Company in 2001. Since then it has staged six productions, bringing together students on community theatre courses with prisoners, prison education staff and professional theatre directors, designers and playwrights.
