So-called "cougars" - older, powerful women who choose to date attractive toy boys - are largely the preserve of Hollywood films, according to new research at the University of Wales Institute, Cardiff. The study found that both men and women continue to follow traditional patterns when it comes to searching for a partner, with women looking to pair up with an older, possibly wealthier, man. Men, however, desire a younger, attractive partner. Michael Dunn, lecturer in psychology at the university's School of Health, said the findings support evolutionary theory. "Women focus more than males on cues indicative of wealth and status, and these logically accumulate with age," he said.
