University of Ulster - Sexual assault warning issued

Young women must put safety first when socialising over the festive season, a University of Ulster study into sexual assault has said. The research, the first of its kind in Northern Ireland, found that three quarters of victims were aged under 28, with almost half under 20, and two thirds had been drinking. More than half were assaulted by people they knew. Winnie Maguire, a forensic doctor with the Police Service of Northern Ireland, conducted the study as part of her masters in forensic and legal medicine.
