A supermarket chain has donated almost £70,000 to university honeybee researchers who are working to decode the insects' famous "waggle dance". The donation from Waitrose will support scientists at the University of Sussex who are deciphering the distinctive movement to determine how far honeybees travel to forage for food. So far, researchers at the Laboratory of Apiculture and Social Insects (LASI) have found forager bees have to travel furthest to find food in the summer, and do much of their searching in urban and suburban areas.
