University of Sussex - Reaching new depths

八月 6, 2009

A lecturer in education has won first place in the women's division of the Saltfree Double Dip 2009 freediving competition, the UK's national freediving championship. Kattie Lussier, an academic in the University of Sussex's School of Education, said: "I'm ecstatic to have won. I've been scuba diving for nearly ten years, but I started freediving last year with two other members of the Sussex Sub Aqua Club. At the time I couldn't have imagined that I would enter the competitive scene, but I'm really glad I did." In freediving, competitors dive as deep as they can with only a single breath of air. Dr Lussier dived with fins to a depth of 30m and without fins to 20m.
