University of Salford - Virtual tool for gypsy settlements

Computer-game technology is being used to help local authorities find and develop sites for gypsy and traveller communities. The University of Salford's Virtual Environments Technology Solutions and its Housing and Urban Studies Unit have worked together to develop the tool. Once authorities have identified proposed locations, a team from the university creates a map, which is used to approach travellers for their views. After a site is chosen by the council, the university works with travellers to create a model of the site, complete with three-dimensional access routes, amenities and living space.
