University of Salford - Nurses discuss life choices

五月 7, 2009

The rights and wrongs of assisted suicide were debated at the University of Salford's School of Nursing this week. The aim was to discuss whether the Royal College of Nursing should maintain its opposition to assisted suicide or begin lobbying for a change in the law. The college is currently consulting members on the topic, a process that is due to end on 22 May. At the event, Martin Johnson, professor of nursing at Salford, argued that change should now be considered. Speaking before the debate, which took place on 5 May, he said: "It is an individual's choice to decide how they are cared for. This includes being able, if they wish, to end their lives because of chronic and incurable pain and suffering."
