University of Portsmouth - New nursery bucks closure trend

The University of Portsmouth is spending £1 million on a new nursery to replace its existing facilities, going against the grain of the prevailing tendency to close campus childcare services in the higher education sector. Many universities and colleges have cited financial reasons for their decisions. Deputy vice-chancellor Rebecca Bunting told Nursery World magazine: "The university has made a strategic decision to support the nursery. We have a significant number of mature students and a long waiting list for places."
