University of Nottingham - Students and staff protest

六月 5, 2008

Nottingham MP Alan Simpson joined University of Nottingham students and staff in a protest against the deportation of Hicham Yezza, a university administrator who was detained under the Terrorism Act.

Mr Yezza was due to be deported on 1 June but this did not go ahead after an application for judicial review was filed.

The campaigners are angry at the treatment of Mr Yezza, a 30-year-old Algerian citizen - a former PhD student at Nottingham - who was arrested on May 20 on suspicion of possessing extremist material.

Mr Yezza, whose application for British citizenship is in process, was held for six days and released without charge. But he was then rearrested and transferred to Colnbrook Immigration Removal Centre.
