University of Manchester - High costs of lesbian conception

Lesbian couples are finding it easier to conceive through fertility clinics, but the high costs involved mean that many couples are being forced to turn elsewhere. A study by Petra Nordqvist of the Morgan Centre for the Study of Relationships and Personal Life at the University of Manchester found that despite changes to the law that make it easier for lesbian couples to obtain fertility treatment, the costs involved force many to seek donors on their own, mainly by using internet message boards. Couples conceiving privately are not protected by law and are vulnerable to custody battles.
