Female school pupils are concerned about the voyeuristic use of CCTV surveillance by male operators, an academic study has found. Researchers from the University of Hull studied the impact of school CCTV on pupils from three schools. Students at a girls' comprehensive worried that the cameras encouraged them to be self-conscious about their appearance. One participant says: "The cameras are trying to control us and make us perfect." Others say they want a "backstage" area where they can make themselves presentable before being watched.
