University of Hertfordshire - Bear trajectories

十月 7, 2010

An engineer has demonstrated how teddy bears can travel at supersonic speeds. Ray Wilkinson, principal lecturer in engineering at the University of Hertfordshire, showcased his work in rocketry as part of the CBBC television show Blast Lab. Dr Wilkinson used a composite rocket motor to set up a rocket sled, carrying a teddy bear and a slice of pizza, which was reported to have achieved speeds of 838 miles per hour. The academic and his student team have also developed a toffee-powered rocket and a sled that has reached speeds in excess of 1,200 miles per hour. His team is currently working on a dual-fuel rocket, which they say could provide technology suitable for journeys to Mars.
