University of Essex - Protein's promise for oncology

九月 24, 2009

Researchers at the University of Essex believe they have made a breakthrough in the study of the development of breast cancer, which could lead to new treatments for the disease. The team, led by Elena Klenova, reader in molecular oncology, focused on a protein called CTCF. It found two versions of the protein, a "good" one found in healthy breast tissue and a "bad" one found in cancerous tissue. The study, published in the journal Clinical Cancer Research, suggests that specific therapies could be developed to re-establish "good" CTCF, which could lead to the normalisation of tumour cells.
