The politics of plants will guide the global economy, according to a scientist from the University of Edinburgh. Writing in the first issue of a new journal, Food Security, research fellow Emma Frow said that successfully tackling major world problems - human health, climate change, protecting landscapes, providing materials for industry and supporting rural communities - will depend on our effective management of plants. "Plants could be the perfect focal point for joined-up government thinking," Dr Frow said. "Scientific advances are creating opportunities for all sorts of new and clever uses for plants. In principle, many of these applications could be both."
