University of East Anglia - Green power takes root

The foundations have been laid for a new power station at the University of East Anglia that promises to cut the university's carbon emissions by more than a third in two years. The biomass station, said to be the first of its kind in England, will burn wood chips from sustainable forests within 50 metres of the campus to produce gas. The charcoal residue left behind will be used to fertilise the forests. The university said it was another step towards being the "most sustainable campus in the country".
