University of Central Lancashire - Cops not reaching BME groups

A study of how the police can best work with minority groups, including the Muslim community, has been produced by a team led by the University of Central Lancashire (Uclan). It has produced a report for the Metropolitan Police Service as part of the project, which studied five London boroughs to investigate different ethnic and faith groups and consider how to combat hate crimes, violent extremism and gang and youth crime. The researchers, led by Uclan's International School for Communities, Rights and Inclusion, concluded that current methods operated by the police do not work. Bob McDonald, head of radicalisation and cohesion and leader of the study, said that "mutual understanding, trust and confidence" between police and the minority communities studied were at a low ebb.
