University of Bournemouth - Scholars make the grade

Ten academics have been appointed associate professors at the University of Bournemouth. Appointees are expected to progress to full professor status within five years. The university has also created a new grading structure for existing professors, with four academics promoted to "professor grade 2" status in recognition of their contribution to international research. Paul Curran, the vice-chancellor, said: "Our new professorial structure is an important step ... The lack of a promotion round has been a concern since I was appointed, and I am delighted that through the hard work of colleagues and the co-operation of the University and College Union we now have a robust scheme in place."
