University of Aberdeen - Wii study a question of balance

The latest computer-game console is being used in a study of balance in older people at the University of Aberdeen. The research, being carried out in conjunction with NHS Grampian, will use the Nintendo Wii Fit, which requires players to physically move about to participate in games, to examine the balance of people aged 70 and over who are prone to falls. Alison Stewart, honorary research fellow at the university, said: "I initially proposed using a piece of equipment that cost several thousand pounds. When no grants were forthcoming to pay for it, I heard that the Wii Fit balance board might do the same thing."
