University of Aberdeen - Stoned bones are stronger longer

九月 17, 2009

Cannabis may help to prevent the breakdown of bones, scientists at the University of Aberdeen have found. The researchers have discovered a constituent in the drug that can block the protein that destroys bone matter. The process by which the body removes old bone accelerates in later life and can increase the likelihood of diseases such as osteoporosis due to a loss of bone density. The scientists behind the discovery, based at Aberdeen's Institute of Medical Sciences, stress that smoking cannabis is not the answer to beating such diseases, but they hope their findings may lead to further research and the development of new treatments.
