Many of us reach for a biscuit or bag of crisps when we are under pressure at work, and Scottish researchers are looking to find out why. Researchers at the University of Aberdeen are exploring how and why food can be addictive as part of a five-year European study into the reasons why people eat too much. The Rowlett Institute of Nutrition at Aberdeen has been awarded EUR1 million (£830,000) in funding to deliver three elements of the project, including a study of the effect of workplace stress on eating behaviour and an exploration of whether sweet tastes and rich textures cause addiction.
