University of Aberdeen - Premature expectation

Women born prematurely or who have siblings who were born early are more at risk of having a pre-term baby themselves, Scottish scientists have found. A study carried out at the University of Aberdeen showed that pregnant women with a family history of premature births are 60 per cent more likely to deliver prematurely if it is their first pregnancy, and 50 per cent more likely in subsequent births. The findings in the journal Obstetrics and Gynaecology are based on data taken from mothers and daughters who gave birth in Aberdeen between September 1948 and March 2008.
