Scientists at the University of Aberdeen are hoping that a breakthrough in the understanding of bacteria could lead to the development of new antimicrobial drugs to fight infection. After 25 years of research, scientists have discovered exactly how some bacteria act to protect themselves when they are threatened or attacked. Their discovery could help to develop drugs to combat E. coli, Salmonella and Brucella infections more effectively, as well as helping patients with cystic fibrosis.
