University of Aberdeen - Fins could be worse

四月 1, 2010

Large fish farms may not have a bigger environmental impact on the seabed than their smaller counterparts, according to a study. Researchers at the University of Aberdeen examined how the size of a fish farm relates to its "environmental footprint". They analysed data from 50 Scottish farms and found that larger ones do not necessarily have a greater effect. Daniel Mayor, research fellow at Aberdeen's Oceanlab, said that the findings contradicted the conventional wisdom that increasing the quantity of fish would generate more waste and have a more deleterious environmental impact.
