University of Aberdeen - Fighting fungal infection

Scientists at the University of Aberdeen have cracked the genetic code of a fungus responsible for potentially deadly infections in humans. It is hoped that understanding the genetic make-up of six species of Candida - the most common cause of fungal infections - will prove a major breakthrough in healthcare. The mortality rate of someone with septicaemia caused by Candida is up to 40 per cent.
