SHAUN COLE, advanced fellow in cosmology at Durham University, is not a union member.
"It doesn't cost much to join, but I am not quite sure what I would get out of joining," he said.
"In terms of what they negotiate, we seem to get the benefits without joining up. I agree with what the unions say, but I have not seen a need to join, but I will probably join soon."
