Union launches onslaught against casualisation

UNIVERSITIES could face legal and industrial action as part of a new campaign against casualisation by the Association of University Teachers. The union, which launches its campaign on November , plans to "out" the worst offenders in a survey that will be produced as part of the campaign. It says that it will use legal action, collective action and the threat of academic sanctions against those institutions that are over-reliant on fixed-term contract staff. The AUT says that a key aspect of the campaign will be an "onslaught" against the use of waiver clauses. These clauses are often written into fixed-term contracts and weaken employment rights.
