UfI name does not suit the role, say employers

An Engineering Employers Federation survey of 90 companies, trade unions and financial bodies on the government's University for Industry has found little support for the title. They say the word "university" gives the wrong image and would prefer Learning for Industry or Learning Direct. They want more practical details on how the UfI will work and warn that virtual learning cannot replace direct access to workplace trainers. The UfI said many of the issues are already being addressed. It has outlined the "very practical role" it will play in boosting competitiveness.
