Training hospital gets £25m injection

* Leicester and De Montfort universities have signed a private finance deal worth more than £400 million. The deal will invest £25 million in academic facilities at Leicester General Hospital.

University Hospitals of Leicester National Health Service Trust won approval from Leicestershire, Northamptonshire and Rutland Strategic Health Authority to modernise three Leicester hospitals. Leicester General will become the key site for the training of doctors, nurses and midwives.

The Leicester-Warwick medical school is set to enrol 403 students next year - the largest intake of any UK medical school. The £25 million will come in part from the money generated by the extra students.
