Tories win friends

More than a quarter of students would vote Conservative if an immediate general election were called, according to a poll. The survey, carried out by Opinionpanel Research in the second week of December 2005, found many students had been wooed to the party by the new Conservative leader, David Cameron. It found that per cent of students said they would vote Tory, putting the Conservatives on a level pegging with Labour.

The Liberal Democrats remained in the lead, although their proportion of the student vote dropped from 46 per cent in October 2005 to 38 per cent in December.
