Is Roger Ward, the man who is to industrial conciliation what O. J. Simpson is to the quiet life, about to lose his lead role in further education? Already competing with Association for Colleges chief Ruth Gee for the leadership of the body which will emerge from the link-up of AFC with his College Employers Federation, the sharp-suited Ward looks to have another challenger on his hands. Keith Scribbins, recently-elected chair of CEF, friend and former Natfhe colleague of AUT general secretary David Triesman, was the name being bandied about at the Labour Party conference.
