This mouldy bread and sour milk was part of a collection of rancid food in a "rotting room" used to show the rates at which different items decompose.

Iain Haysom, course leader in diet and health at Bath Spa University, placed six different boxes of food in an outbuilding, and time-lapse cameras recorded the decay.

Within a week, the fish and meat were infested with maggots. The results were presented on Food: What Goes in Your Basket?, a series for Channel 4.
