Thesis

The THES Internet Service, THESIS, gets a new look today. The redesigned pages are intended both to provide a better service for our regular visitors and to attract new Internet users who have discovered that even confirmed computer- haters can enjoy exploring the World-Wide Web.

n Information will be presented on easy-to-navigate Web pages. But for those whose location or equipment makes Gopher the preferred method of access, our text-only Gopher service continues.

Launched in January, THESIS has grown in popularity and now often receives more than 10,000 requests for individual pages or documents in a day.

A major attraction is InterView, the online marketplace for academic jobs in the United Kingdom and around the world. The advertisements, grouped by job title and subject area, are now presented on World-Wide Web pages which are easier to scan for the post you seek. The jobs go online each Tuesday, three days before they appear in the newspaper.

THESIS offers a guide to the contents of the current week's newspaper and the most recent Multimedia and Synthesis sections. News, features and opinion articles are summarised and, when a story mentions a relevant Internet site, you can pursue the information trail wherever in the world it leads. NetGazette, only available online, is an extended edition of the newspaper's Noticeboard section.

Details of books reviewed in The THES are added to the service each week. We note interesting new publications in each academic subject area, including those we are unable to review.

On other THESIS pages you can subscribe to the newspaper, send us your comments, or scan our extensive United Kingdom list of Research Opportunities. The Databank pages offer higher education facts and figures: here you will currently find research and teaching quality listings for universities and colleges in England, Scotland and Wales.
