The essence of humanity

三月 12, 2009

Durham University is presenting On Being Human, an exhibition that forms part of its Institute of Advanced Study's year-long examination of what it means to be human in the 21st century.

The event will feature the first UK showing outside London of the work of Jane Alexander. The celebrated South African artist investigates the human condition through her work: her human figures - in varying states of abjection and degrees of morphing with animal life - invite reflection upon what it is to be human amid poverty, deprivation and oppression.

The exhibition is open to the public from 3 to 22 March. It is supported by Durham Cathedral, and its sponsors include the Northern Rock Foundation, Banco Santander and the North American Foundation for Durham University.
