Scottish Office records newly released under the 30-year rule reveal George Foulkes, president of the Scottish Union of Students, spearheading the fight against the prospect of loans. Mr Foulkes, now Labour MP for Carrick, Cumnock and Doon Valley, and minister for international development, is today not noted for his opposition to the government's proposals on student support. That is being left to his son, Alex, vice president of Edinburgh University's students association. Watch out for him as Scotland's minister for the interior, circa 2028.
